THE Brentham Club in Ealing is raising money for the Down’s Syndrome Association with a barn dance organised by the family of five-year-old sufferer Lucas Schmidt.
His family have enlisted the help of the wider Ealing community, with BK Fancy Dress shop in Northfields stocking up specifically for the event and several Pitshanger Lane shops – such as Oscars and The Fruit Bowl – selling raffle tickets.
His parents, Samantha and Alex, are keen to make their son feel accepted and the dance, on April 25, is only part of their efforts.
Pupils at North Ealing Primary School will be wearing odd socks on and parents will be distributing leaflets and raffle tickets in the playground. Lucas suffers from Hirschprung’s Disease, meaning only some of his colon has grown properly.
He has been in and out of hospital all his life and is set to undergo his 15th operation this summer.
His mother, however, remains upbeat and credits Ealing people for their support, particularly for the raffle.
She said: “People just started giving things. It was amazing. Ealing is a wonderful place to live.”
