THE charity Youth Music has praised the fund-raising efforts of Alice Gross’s mother, Ros Hodgkiss.

Since Alice’s murder in August last year, Ros has been collecting money tirelessly for Alice’s Youth Music Memorial Fund, which she and her husband, José Gross, set up in memory of their daughter.

She hopes to create a lasting legacy of music-making for disadvantaged young people in tribute to Alice, who was a talented singer and musician.

More than £30,000 has been collected to date, making Ros, from Hanwell, the most successful individual community fund-raiser for the fund’s beneficiary, the National Foundation for Youth Music.

Money has come from a variety of events, including musical performances, supper club get-togethers, sponsored runs and summer events such as the Hanwell Carnival.

Youth Music supports more than 400 music projects around the country for young people in challenging circumstances, including disability, poverty and mental health issues, as well as those facing difficult life situations such as being a refugee or being brought up in care.

The charity reaches out to 75,000 children annually, many in the most deprived boroughs in the UK.

However, Youth Music has to turn down two out of three applications for funding, due to limited financial resources.

On Tuesday, July 21 a host of stars will be performing at the Ambassadors Theatre, London in A Concert for Alice, to raise money for Alice’s Youth Music Memorial Fund.

Award-winning singer-songwriter and Youth Music ambassador Laura Mvula will head the bill, which includes West End star Julie Atherton, X-Factor stars Niki Evans and Lloyd Daniels, along with the electronic string quartet and Britain’s Got Talent finalists Escala.

The London Contemporary Voices choir and dance troupe Zoonation Youth Company will also be performing in an evening of uplifting music and dance in memory of Alice.

Tickets are available from the Ambassadors Theatre box office on 08448 112 334 and further information is available at http://www.aconcertforalice.com .

Youth Music’s chief executive Matt Griffiths said: “Ros has been tireless in her efforts to raise funds for Alice’s Youth Music Memorial Fund.

“In the face of such a horrific tragedy, her sterling effort to support our work is humbling and very much appreciated.”
