THE deputy head of an independent Roman Catholic school in Ealing has resigned after being charged with possessing images of child sex abuse.

Peter Allott, deputy head at St Benedict's School since 2012, is due to appear at Blackfriars Crown Court on Wednesday December 23, to answer charges of possessing, showing and making indecent images of children.

The 36-year-old appeared at Ealing Magistrates Court on December 8.

Some of the alleged offences relate to the most severe band of images, category A.

Allott, a former Conservative councillor at Ealing Council, was a teacher at St Benedict's School between 2004 and 2010.

The school, which charges up to £4,850 a term in fees, said in a statement that Mr Allott had resigned from his post as a result of the charges and would not be returning to the school.

The National Crime Agency said they were working in partnership with local child protection agencies to ensure wider child safeguarding.
