The All People’s Party candidate for Enfield and Haringey, Godson Azu, sees his party's progress as a positive step despite poor performance in the London Assembly elections.

Mr Azu is currently last among candidates as Joanne McCarthney leads the voting with 68% — holding a comfortable lead over the Conservative’s Linda Kelly.

But he sees the election as a stepping stone and a way to encourage involvement in politics for the party which was formed in 2014 after Councillor Prem Goyal OBE defected from Labour.

Mr Azu said: “I see it as a new beginning.

“The intention is just to encourage participation. Campaigning has been very strenuous work, as a new party we don’t have many volunteers.

“It’s been an interesting one and I am very, very happy. I look forward to the next election.”

Mr Azu ran on a platform of social and community integration and political and economic empowerment for all and has previously ran as an MP in Brentford and Isleworth.

He has been a political commentator on the BEN TV and is a published political author and was also a union leader for the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union.
