Jason West believes technical tweaks will lead to an upturn in his T100 World Tour fortunes as he bids for a return to his best form in Singapore.

The American, who occupied the podium at the PTO’s European Open and Asian Open in 2023, was disappointed with his display in Miami in the rebranded series’ opening race in March.

He has his sights set on upgrading that seventh-place finish and hopes his hard work in the intervening weeks will pay off in South East Asia.

“I had a tough race in Miami,” he said. “It wasn’t what I was hoping for or up to my standards.

“I had a really bad bike ride but I think we know why, so we made some adjustments and I’m feeling a whole lot better.

“I just have to continue to trust in my team that we can make the right choices and set myself up to perform.

“The great thing about having a whole series this year is that we have so many races and so many opportunities. We are one down but there are plenty to go.”

Sunday’s Singaporean showdown is the second of eight T100 World Tour races across the season, each made up of a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run.

Magnus Ditlev enters the weekend in top spot after his success in Miami and West believes the increasing regularity of the races will lead to some spicy rivalries as the campaign progresses.

“It’s incredible, every race is totally stacked,” he said.

“It’s a world-class field so you really have to bring your best. It’s a tough challenge as we are not necessarily used to that.

“We are going to see the same guys racing each other all the time so we are always going to be butting heads.

“There are so many guys in this series who can win races. We will see results where everybody is just scrambled throughout the year and it will be cool to see which athletes emerge at the top as those rivalries begin.”

West is delighted to be back at the scene of his Asian Open bronze last year and a similar result this weekend could kickstart what he hopes will be a push for the overall crown.

“Being here in Singapore is really unique,” he said. “I have experienced some really cool things here, botanical gardens and the famous food halls.

“I like to try all different kinds of food and I love the options here. It has been a lot of fun and this is a place I always want to come back to.

“Going into this race I’ve felt a lot more relaxed than Miami. I’m chilling a little bit more and trying to enjoy it more.

“The goal this year is to win the series. I didn’t get off to the start I wanted but we have so many races and so many opportunities to score points.

“We have a lot of races to go and hopefully I’ll move in the right direction with this one and get after it from there.”
