Rising Leamington triathlon star Megan McDonald says she is ready and raring to go after bouncing back from injury.

The 18-year-old, who is a Jaguar Land Rover Academy of Sport athlete, is a two-time youth national triathlon champion and is being tipped for future success.

However, a torn hamstring at the start of the year and a stress fracture has hampered her recent progress and forced her to watch on from the sidelines.

But now she has finished her road to recovery and is hoping to hit the ground running as she prepares to make her comeback.

“This year has not gone to plan at all to be honest,” she said. “I raced in Portugal at the start of the year in the European Championships and I tore my hamstring. I was back for two weeks and then I suffered a stress fracture, so I have been out all season which has been incredibly frustrating. But that comes with the territory of being an athlete and I have had to come back from it."

“My aim now is to get fit again and get back to running. I have started some impact work and then to get ready for the first race of next year. Hopefully the injuries are behind me now and I can continue where I left off.”

As a Jaguar Land Rover Academy of Sport athlete McDonald receives funding and mentoring from the biggest names in British Sport.

Its alumni include athletes that have made it to the top of their respective fields including London 2012 gold medallist Jade Jones. And McDonald is hoping the help she receives can help her make the transition to seniors and propel her to the pinnacle of her sport.

“The bursary and knowledge I get is a big help and it’s been really helpful in helping me get back to fitness,” she added. "I’m two-times youth national triathlon champion so I want to be able to build on that and ensure I am successful in the future."

“It means a lot to me to be involved in this program. It is my third year and they have supported me well for the past three years. I’ve learnt so much from being in the academy. I would like to think I can repay their faith and go on to be successful at all levels in the future.”
